MF 550 won't move

My brother's 550 broke down in the field the last time he used it, the steering axle pulled loose. It sat there until spring when He fell ill and couldn't do anything. His son in law hooked a chain to it and drug it out of the field. They are getting ready for his sale, his son in law called me, I got the combine started, but it won't move. It's a hydrostat transmission. Did he tear something up by pulling it? I tried shifting gears, it didn't feel quite right, need to check the linkage. Is there a disconnect somewhere for pulling the combine with a hydro? The old girl is pretty rough, I can't see investing much time or money in it if it's anything serious. Chris

Probably just the shifter linkage. Try shifting it down by the transmission. On MF combines, I think there are more wrongly adjusted shifters than right ones.

Is there oil in it? The tank is the one behind the engine. There is a low hanging hose by the axle that could have got damaged if you were muddling it, and leaked out all your hydro fluid(big and NLA from AGCO).

I will second the fact it is more than likely not in gear on the transmission. They where not the best shifting when new and old/rust just makes them worse. Also that machine will not bring much at auction. It is a parts machine and even then the motor is worth more than the rest of the machine.

When are they thinking of having the auction??? I may try and come down.
