Note - two parts - the wires and two holes in the sieve.
My John Deere 6620 needs a little attention in the cleaning section. First the sieve (lower cleaning area) has two holes in it where the metal strips with the notches have broken out. I have pulled the chaffer and sieve out. The wires holding the metal strips that open and close have broke. I can either just get another sieve or weld in the two sections from a junk sieve. Any one ever repaired a sieve and how did you do it?????????
The chaffer (top cleaning area) is in perfect condition and needs no repair. It has probably been replaced.
Next I noticed most of the wire fingers behind the grain pan augers are broken off. The wires (fingers) carry the crop back over the chaffer slightly farther. The fingers also probably let the crop fall onto the chaffer to better blow out chaff and dirt. WHY DO THESE WIRES BREAK OFF ???????? The previous owner had attached thin sheet metal under the wires with stove bolts and washers. The tin under the right and left side is a little longer than in the middle. Is this normal to do??????? IS IT OK TO JUST PUT NEW WIRES IN THE COMBINE and take the tin out??????? Everything else back there seems ok. Is there anything else that works to improve the cleaning area???? Thanks everyone.
