Nice 40 Oliver

Looks like a nice enough combine. Only about 100 miles away from me. Not sure what I'd do with it, however, with the air conditioned 1688 looking at me in the shed.

I use to run one like that with a 2 row corn head , after school for my brother in law, The corn head ran the stalks and all thru, did a nice job.

I'm in Gilman wi, not sure how far from there but if someone needs a place to.keep it for awhile just let me know

An uncle had one of those. There was so much power loss from the drive line making a 90 degree turn that the machine lacked capacity. It had a difficult time threshing large windrows.

The diesel versions did use the Super 88 engine. Also, the rice versions used a 70 hp engine. Same engine as the standard model but sped up to 2,000 rpms.

Case and IH did that too. Made for simplified engineering as existing tractor or truck drive train components could be utilized but made for poor power transfer.

There's just something about those open air combines that I like. We spent many an hour riding with our dad years ago on an old Gleaner "E" combine dad bought back in 1969 I believe. Mom has home movies with dad driving and all four us kids on there with him as he drove it thru the barn yard at home. Great Memory.

I have 40 Oliver with home made? cab and corn and grain heads should someone be interested. It has a Hercules flathead engine. In western Minn.
