I just bought this 42 because it was
going to get junked. I was wonderingIf
you could give me some pointers
because I don't have a manual for it
and I want to cut some oats with it.
Thanks in advance!

Cylinder speed-approx 1100;concave open approx 1/4-3/8 front, rear 3/16-1/8 open;sieves open enough for grain to pass through, closed enough to keep straw etc out...........

I like my ac 72 alcrop but still wish i had bought a 42 at a neighbors sale some years back. His had the corn head and bean head with the hume reel. I hear it does kind of bunches the crop to one side of the ccyclinder but is still pretty good combine. He pulled it with a d 17
:D

I'm not newby... I owned a harvest crew that cut 100,000 acres a year....and owned a 40,45,45,55,55,95,95,95,&105, but never a 42 I can set a combine better then the book, I'm wondering about things the book doesn't tell you, like how's the off set head feed, is this one of those combines that you don't fill the.hopper up all the way because the clean grain elevator auger is ran by a flat chain, what are the weak points of this machine, does the right angle gear box give much trouble. I should have more specific I guess.

My Uncle had one of those back in late 60's early 70's. He pulled it with a 706 the only green thing on the farm.

Sure wish I could save one from going to scrap like that. Last one sold on auctiontime brought over $3500.....

Make sure you make some videos of it in action and post them on youtube.

What would be a good tractor to put on it? I've got a jd 620, international 560 diesel, and a 4020

Either JD would look better on it then the IH. However, the 560 would be the most convenient with more gears to choose from if it has a working TA. I'm not a fan of 2 cylinders running PTO equipment. JD recommended 45 hp for the 42 so that would put the 620 right on the edge.

My nieghbor had one wiith both heads. He pulled it with an A/C D 17. for years till he died. I got outbid on it at his sale. It is a #40 combine but the #42 is the pull type version. It does bunch grain to one side due to the off set feed . I remember the cylinder bars were wore more on one side.

Picture of one with a 630 on it. Had just about every bolt out of it. give me a call if you ever need to know how something is put together on it.
