Got a 7700 late last fall only did 20 acres of beans. i am running a 13 foot head so i dont think i am putting to much through it. the only problem i had was the straw chopper was plugging high right behind the straw walker. wondering if the damper that is in there needs to come out or if the blades could be dull. any ideas. just getting ready for fall.

Thanks Dan

Well several things can cause plugging.

1) IF the plug was up high against the gate/board then check and make sure the straw walkers are turning the correct speed. The drive chain and sprocket that drive them have to be in good shape an the chain FIDDLE tight. If not then the chain will walk on the sprocket and the straw walkers turn slow.

2) Make sure the straw walker slip clutch is not slipping. I have had guys grease them and they will not drive under load.

3) If it was plugging clear t the bottom then the trouble is in the chopper itself.
A) Are the hammers good and square on the corners or are they round off bad??? If they are rounded these newer type of soybeans with green stems will not be pulled through the chopper with rounded hammers.
B) Do you have the knives rolled into the chopper?? You roll them out for corn and put them in for grain.
C) Has someone put a slow down kit on the combine for corn??? There is an extra pulley and belt on the drive right above the chopper. If the chopper is on the slow speed it will not chop right.

Check these things over and let us know what you find.
