Dearborn-Woods corn picker

Finally was able to get this one home. Only blew out 1 tire.

Seems to be in good condition, the rubber rolls appear, to me, to be still in good shape. Would like to change/replace the spiral husking flaps. Does anyone know what they are made out of? Looks like a ticor type material to me.

Hopefully will be able to pick a few loads of corn for the pigs this year.

Appreciate any ideas!

my dad had one just like that, between him and my uncle they picked alot of corn with that. the last years dad picked corn he had anew idea 323 i think. be fun to have one for old time sake.

For those husking roll rubber straps just grab your self an old junk car tire and cut pieces out of the sidewall. That is the way they used to be made. Just get a standard load rating car tire as heavier will not flex as much. I have one of the old grey units of about 42 to 47. It is not the orignal grey that was designed for the old Fordson, so I might be off on first year of the model I have could go back to 40. The red with dearborn name was 48 to 54 when Dearborn was droped and Ford was used and red untill 64 when blue ones came out in 65. Have only seen pictures of the blue series.

Thanks for fixing that picture - I do not know how they went crooked - looked good on my phone!

That must be the going rate for a 1 row corn picker, as I paid a bit less than $250 for this one.

I am assuming do not use a steel belted radial tire, eh?! Thanks for the replies!

Biggest problem with a steel belted tire is finding one that fits. as orignally either a 6:00 or 6:50 x 16" If I was out at my picker could tell for sure as I think it has the orignal early 40's tires yet. To find a tire of that type finding something of correct diameter will be hard, then they are made on the wide style and if you find the correct diameter then the width will be too wide for a sidewall clearance.

I would love to find one of those in my area, south central IL. All of them around here that I have found have spent too much time in the fencerow.

I replaced the flaps on the husking bed auger several years ago. Got the parts from the Parts Depot through my IH/Case dealer (Ford/NH) is owned by them. Made for 60bu corn, will probably need the optional snapping bars bolted to the snapping rolls. If you want to see mine working on YouTube, type in ford corn picker or go to my vids. on YT at muskegoboy.
Good luck

I have a Assembly and Operating Instruction manual for a 16-4 picker if you are interested.

Never mind. I found the picker listed on the new Holland parts store. Could not believe they actually had that information listed!
