I combine both oats and wheat with my JD 4420. I basically use the same settings for both. Only thing I do is open the cylinder to maybe "8" or so for heavy oats that is very ripe. On wheat I run at about "2". I keep the same cylinder speed (about 900), same fan speed, and sieve settings. So I would try the same settings as wheat and then make adjustments from there. Al

We (son and I) cut oats yesterday with a 9610. According to the book some settings are the same as for wheat which we just finished a couple of weeks ago, but the cylinder speed and fan speed are both reduced. We were getting very clean oats but reduced the fan speed a little more after checking for seed loss out the back.

Oats are one of the easiest grains to thresh out. If you've been doing wheat, reduce the cylinder speed and open the concave a bit. Since oats have a hull, the individual kernels are less dense than wheat too so reduce the fan speed or you'll be blowing a lot of them out the back. You will also want to open the sieves a bit more than for wheat.
