I'am new around combines and know very little about them. I have a john Deere 12a combine and noticed that the grain is augered to the elevator chain which raises it to the bagger, hear is my question, the tube which holds the auger has little holes in it ,why doesen't the grain fall out onto the ground?

The holes are smaller than the grain. Those holes are supposed to be there. They help 'filter' dirt and 'fines' from the clean grain.

I don't think every 12A had those holes. Dad had a 12A and I don't remember those holes on his. Was it an option from the factory??

But then you do not get docked at the elevator for those weeds and ground dirt you will pick up in harvesting soybeans. And the weight dockage will be about 2 times actuall.
