JD 4400 engine belt pulleys question

My 1978 JD 4400 diesel combine is getting ready for wheat harvest. When inspecting the two little belt pulleys (one for the fan & one for the rotary screen) I can wiggle then back & forth about 1/8 inch on the shaft. With the belt off they have a "dry" or "worn" sound but show no discoloration. I 'm considering replacing these as I've owned the combine since November, 2000, and to my knowledge they could be the originals and I have never replaced them. Belts are in good shape with no cracks. Has anyone experienced what I'm talking about and have replaced these pulleys in the condition I'm describing? I feel I should replace them to eliminate any future problem. As always, any assistance is greatly appreciated.

My rule of thumb is if in doubt of a part replace it. If they fail they will probably take other parts out with them, at the very least you will have down time.

Yup, replace. Two things that always get repairs of any questionable parts: the combine and the planting equipment. When you need either of those you are in a narrow time window for optimum results. You can always put another tractor on the grain cart if it breaks down. You can't get a new belt and idler pulley at six pm on a Sunday.

Check shafts for wear. JD made our G crankshaft so that the flywheel and clutch drive hub wouldn't stay tight. Flywheel would just walk on out and clutch hub would move so the clutch wouldn't hold. Most aggravating and repair costly machine that we had on the farm. We had a machine shop build up the crankshaft and cut new splines correctly.
