Massey Ferguson 36

Picked up this little swather on a tip from a fella on Tractor Talk. Just north of Frankenmuth, MI. New draper belts/sheets (whatever they are called). 12' head. Chevy 4 cylinder. Carb cleaned, starter replaced. Needs a seat cushion and some of the belts replaced, but currently running and working. I was not there when it was loaded but I was there for the unload and it is not something I would care to do often. Think "giant, front wheel drive ZTR mower" with substantially less control and you will be pretty close to accurate. My 7 acre "test plot" is in oats this year. I was going to swath them to make sure they are fairly uniform in moisture content. I have a 12' 810 grain table with a Sund pickup on it. I was also able to catch a 16' 820 head at an auction just 10 miles from home last week for backup should something go wrong. Things were selling on the low side. Didn't know when I would find one as nice that close to home again so I grabbed it. Never have grown oats before but they look pretty good. So here is a pic of the latest toy...

That will make you a nice grain cutting unit, the 4 cylinder version is a bit better on gas than the 6 cylinder model, MF sold a pile of them too, sounds like you got the bases covered well

My dad bought one of those new in 1968 - 16 ft. header. It was a good machine, easy to run. That little Chevy motor purred like a contented tomcat.

MF 36 was our first SP swather. We bought it in the 60s and looked good next to our 510. Far as I know it was a good swather.

I'm hoping you are right. They drove it on the trailer, we unloaded and drove it to the shed and parked it. Needs new oil and antifreeze. Then I am going to start cleaning it up and assessing the belts. Run it around the shed a few times to see how she handles.
