Where to bleed brakes? JD 4400

Where is the valve to bleed brakes?

I bought a JD 4400 combine at a sale, diesel, went to drive it and the brakes don’t work.

I found the resivoir to add brake fluid. It’s in the platform. I removed the material under my feet in the cab, took off the cover, it was out of brake fluid. I added fluid, but the brakes still don’t work. I think I now need to bleed them

Do I do this from the top? Is the valve near the resivior? Can I reach the valve from the top?
Or do I have to get under the platform, somehow?

Thank you,

Much like a typical vehicle, the brake bleeders are in each "slave cylinder".

Typically the bleeder fittings are at the farthest point away from the master cylinder on all of the brake lines. Often takes 2 people; one to press down on the brake pedal and one to open the bleeder fittings at each point to let the air out. There are special accessories that can make bleeding a 1-person job, if you want to spend the money.

There are some that argue that brakes were optional equipment on a 4400.....even from new they were no more than they needed to be. You will find the bleeder ports on the two slave cylinders on each side of the transmission AFTER you dig and blow out all the accumulated trash etc that they hide under. Don't be surprised if the cyls leak...pull them off and get two new ones if they do....installing kits is not always successful
