JD 920 head on Gleaner M2

Guys don't shoot me yet, but I am looking at putting a green 920 head on a 78 model M2. Deere dealer made me a deal I couldn't pass up. I have a flat wore out LM18 head i can use for parts for adapting it, but does anyone have any tips on going this direction. I fought with the gleaner head for years and never got it to feed correctly. From what I've seen the Deere head is quite a bit better in that department. I found an adapter for a Deere head to IH rotary. Can I take the IH adapter and weld the attachment points from my Gleaner head to it? Does anyone have the correct adapter? Also going to need to find a hydraulic self contained unit to run the reel.
Thanks
Adam

Oh it also has spacers on the reel to make the reel a larger diameter (looks like a miniture ferris wheel) and is considerably bigger then the reel on the one beside it. What is the point of these spacers?
Thanks

Gleaner flex head like a 315, etc., has a self-contained hyd system. Dunno if you can find a salvage unit tho. Personally, I"d figure out what the feeding problems were- certainly not a common issue on Gleaner heads.

Feeding issues- finger adjustment on hdr auger...several settings at auger end. Same with feeder beater....advance/retract issues. Feeder beater height. Worn cyl bars don"t grab as well as new bars.

Well I know what's causing a good amount of the not feeding. The main auger is bent slightly and the floor is getting too many patches on it. Doesn't make for even flow. I had gotten it to feed better, but when I broke the head off the sickle that was the end of that head. Something's are just to far gone to repair. Problem is there are no gleaner heads of any count locally to speak of.

Not sure what you mean by spacers...are you comparing a finger reel to a bat reel? Finger reel is made differently so it can grab and raise the crop into the header. Offsets allow the fingers to maintain vertical angle, instead of "swatting" the crop into the header. Larger diameter would allow slower reel speed, giving less shatter damage. re head availability...location?

I bet your right on the slower reel speed and less shatter. All they are are rectangle plates that bolt where the reel arms would have went (three bolts) and it moves the arms out about 8-12" and they bolt to the ends of these plates. I'll have to get a picture sometime.
Thanks
