JD 55 Hi/Lo-DeltaRed

Delta Red, you asked about my John Deere 55. You asked if it was a "hi/lo". What does that mean? Obviously I've never heard that term. Thanks for informing me. kelly in tx.

The Hi/lo was a 'tranision' from the old roundbacks to the squarebacks. They were built from 60 to 63.They had a slightly modified round back with the low squatty bin of the squareback. They were similar in controls/workings to the rundback.More in common with the rb than the sb. The 95 is a different 'animal'If you need help, feel free to call. (970)417-1178(cell) Steve

Hi/Lo was a marketing name... "Hi Capacity/Lo Profile" It was basically a slightly reworked roundback that was a lower profile machine- making it fit in sheds a whole lot easier than the older roundbacks.

Cabs and Grain tank extentions kind of defeated the idea of the hi/lo. Maybe someone with more skills than me can post a picture of one...

Thanks so much for the offer of help via phone. That's great! Interesting to me that the pix of your JD 95 look SO MUCH like my JD 55. Today I reinstalled the carburetor. Couldn't start it tho, because of low battery. I put the charger on and will try it tomorrow. I may have attached the throttle rod to the wrong place at the carb. I'll find out tomorrow. Again, thanks. kelly in tx

Delta, you look mighty proud on that 95. I learned about a small difference between a 95 R B and a 95 Hi-Lo owning both at the same time. On the Newer Hi-Lo there was about an 1 1/2 inch more clearance between the frt. walker crankshaft and the grain conveyor chain than on the older RB. That was just enuff for the crank to hit the conveyor chain and plug things in heavy corn. The Hi-Lo machine never had that trouble. We had the dealer out several times trying to find the problem before we done some measuring.
When we traded the Hi-Lo 95 off it had very close to 10,000 acres thru it, custom cutting mostly soy beans. It was a good machine. clint

In addition to what has already been said, JD replaced the flat belt separator drive on the RBs with V belt drive on the SBs. And they went to the top drive clean grain elevator instead of bottom drive used on the RBs. Except the 105. The 105 used a top drive clean grain elevator from the beginning. The headers were completely new on the SBs and the grain headers came off at the front of the feederhouse instead of the feederhouse coming off with the header.

Not sure where to post, but I recently bought an JD 45 combine and I need a grain head and 30'' corn head quick attach ( I think this is correct info ) any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Unclebud
