JD 12A Pull Combine Pics

Was at the local gravel pit last week for the first
time since last fall, and saw this JD 12A
combine setting there. Asked the loader
operator about it, and he said that since they
needed land to expand, they bought the 50
acres of woods adjoining their property and this
was sitting in the woods. I thought it was
interesting.

Well her best days are behind her. I have a PTO drive No.12-A here that is shedded and will go to the field again. I bought it as it is the same as my Dad used. Thanks for the photos.

Looks like someone made off with the engine. My cousin took one of those engine units with clutch and put it on one of his grain augers. It proved hard to start (hand crank), so I found him a Kohler with a starter (and clutch) that worked better.

Guess I didn't realize they had a power unit engine on them. I didn't even notice it doesn't have a pto shaft on it. I just figured it was a pto drive until you mentioned the engine and I looked the pics over more. I was dodging raindrops when I took the pics, so I didn't spend too much time checking it out. Did they run an LUC engine on them? Was it mounted down low on the triangle of the hitch pieces?

LUC is what most of them had. Those were mounted next to the grain tank connected to the drive pulley. Initially, they used a Hercules then a LU/LUH. They were mounted on the hitch facing forward and connected to a 90 degree angle gearbox. The LU/LUH also used the same hood as the LA tractor.
