JD early 2 row cotton picker

I found an early 2 row john deere cotton picker. I wanted to know what are some of the early 2 rows that john deere made. I have not looked at the picker closely yet, but I know it is not a 99 or newer model(not year). It is a model that came before the 99. Thanks

John Deere or I.H. did not sell any 2 row tractor mounted cotton pickers. Only Rust (Ben Person Mfg. - Pine Bluff, AR) sold a tractor mounted smooth spindle picker that could be converted from a two row picker that picked from one side of each row to a one row picker that picked from both sides of the row. Allis Chalmers sold these pickers as AC pickers. Were often mounted on WD-45's. Both John Deere and I.H. tractor mounted and self propelled pickers used two picking units per row unit - that picked from each side of the row. Newer John Deere pickers had two picking units per row that both picked from the same side. This allowed them to shift the row units closer together and pick 30 inch row widths if desired.

JD's first self propelled cotton picker and their first cotton picker overall was the No. 8. I think from there they went to the No 99.

Thanks for the help. It is not a tractor mounted picker. I think it is a no. 8 but I cannot find much info on them. Just wanted to get more info before I go look at it tomorrow.

If I can figure out how to post a pic I'll try and post one of a self-propelled Deere on here. i got to see one completely restored about 6 years ago at the pavillion in Moline. I can't remember what model number it is.

Thanks. I think the one they have on display there is a No 8. When I look at the picker tomorrow I will take some pics of it. I hope it is a No. 8, I don't think many are left, and I would like to have one to park under my shed for a future resto project.

The no.8 had green headers and the 99 had yellow headers! Maybe that would help. What part of the delta are you from?
