JD 6600 218 Head

Evening guys! Have a neighbor that wants to sell a 218 head. Price is cheap and it makes me wander if a 329 6600 would handle it in 30 to 50 bushel beans. I run a 215 in 18" row beans now without any trouble.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 218 that I used on my 1973 JD 6600.
I now use it on my 6620.
My brother uses my old 6600 combine and we found a 220 floating cutter bar and it handles it fine.
What was the 218 mounted on?
The auger flighting was to be cut back if the head was to be used on a larger combine.
The 220 we bought was cut back for an 8820 so we had to add flighting to move the material to the width of the 6600 feeder house.
If you don't get it to where the feeder house can grab it, it will wrap on the auger and bend it.

The head was on a 7700. That is good to know. I will have to check that out if I bring it home.

You may also have some extra fingers installed to accommodate the extra width. We removed some from the 220 head.
We bought 2 220 heads and built one good one out of the two.
The "junk" head donated the auger flighting that we needed to add.
If you need some flighting, let me know and I can burn off a chunk of RH and LH.
