Was 28% 45lb on Dec 1. Finished the rest last week just before the ground frost thawed, consistent numbers... 16.5% 52lb. Gained 14% yield on avg.

Not many deer around here during winter. They all head down to the river. Moisture to TW was a decent chunk of the gain.

I'd say you saved a lot on drying costs and dockage for low test weight corn.

It's not that you gained any bushels, just cost less in dockage and hauled less water away.

Either way, worked out good for you. Spring harvest is more common over your way and ne of you I think? Here you are shamed all winter if you leave corn out, and there is big risk of it falling over in the snow and heavy winds we get. As well as deer loss.

Yeah, kinda hard to explain the gain. Same field, same hybrid, same fertilizer, and 14% more than last fall. The suspicion I have is the elevator's measurement system is calibrated very *conservatively* for determining TW of high moisture corn. The TW should not have improved as much as it did for a drop from 28% to 16.5%.

But you're definitely right on the difference in drying, shrink, and TW dockage. Big savings. I was pretty confident going in that this particular hybrid would stand the winter regardless of weather. Almost zero lodging, and we had several days of 30-40+ mph winds over winter. No need to feel shame when you're making money!
