Gleaner R40

Looking at a R40 at a auction coming up. We have an F now.
What is there to look for as major ware parts on the rotary
combines? Are they decent machines? One owner machine
that appears to be taken care of by the looks of his equipment
on the sale bill.

check the cage if its in good shape it should have sharp angles when you stick you finger in one of the squares its not terrible if its rounded but that means its worn and will rob hp my n5 cage needs replaces as some of the squares are getting ready to turn into rectangles, feel the helicals they should be square and not rounded they will work rounded but will rob hp check the accelerator rolls if I remember correctly if you can push a pencil through they are worn out not terribly expensive to fix and not that hard just dirty check the raddle chains as they move fast good luck

If you have a F the change to the R40 will amaze you. I have had one for years and have yet to find a reason to spend the money to replace it. My only problem has really been that it does not like corn over 28 Percent or really tall soybeans. They wrap on pivot shaft. Not much can be done about it. But for the smallest of the R's it is a really good machine
