JD cotton picker

hi, my father n law has a 221 JD one row cotton picker that attaches on to a tractor. Serial no. 2746. I'm trying to find out if there is a market for this item before it gets scrapped. The head was rebuilt years ago and was never used after the rebuild. It's been stored under a barn for the last 30-40 years and has all the original parts. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone is interested in this item you can reach me through my email.

Thanks, Ed

The only people that would be interested would be antique collectors. It has no value to be used or for parts unless someone needs parts to restore one. The modern pickers today are six row and can pick more in 1 hour than that one would pick in a week. If you still have the tricycle front that had to be used it would have some value.

Advertise it I think somebody would want it I hate to see implements scraped of any brand especially ones in good shape or that can be rebuilt .

Ehiggs,

GA is a little to far for me to travel, but you could also advertise it in green magazine and two cylinder magazine. I would think a 1 row cotton picker would be rare enough that someone would want it. I wish I had a way to get it haha

Turns out we are practically neighbors' I am in Brooklet Ga. which is close to Statesboro. I am in an antique tractor club but don't know of anyone with any interest in the picker. Maybe advertise it on Craigs list and find a buyer. I hate to see antique equipment scrapped also but I have 2 416 international 2 row cotton pickers taking up space in my shelter I am thinking of scrapping.

Thx, I like the Craig's list idea, I haven't had that much experience with CL though, but between CL and a few other ideas that I've seen on here I'll be taking some pics and start posting. Thx again.

Don't scrap it! Do you realize how rare these things are? I have one and have folks constantly wanting to buy it or to know if I know where they can get one. Put it on ebay. If you don't know how, find someone who does. Again please don't scrap it. One more thing. I hauled mine about 20 miles after I bought it. You can take the picking head off of the basket/seat platform part and they will both sit solidly on a trailer for transporting. And it's a 22, not a 221. Hope you find a new owner.

Thx for the model correction, my father n law had gotten the info for me off of the picker and I've been looking for a 221. No wonder that I couldn't find out anything about it. By the way, anyone have any idea what these things are worth?
