Next Generation J I Case combine info and photos!?

Any one with more information on the what would have been the next generation of J I Case Combines... love the content on the latest 60 series (and 1665) discussions. Am hoping the pictures attach to this but would like to know more about what was coming out of the factory had it not been shut down. The Case 60 series was a great combine and we ran 1060s well into the 80's (a pair). Let me know or discuss please! Thank you.

Those are a few pictures I posted a number of years ago. Just some machines in various stages of development. Nothing was set in stone, mostly just monkeying around with component designs. For instance one picture shows a rotary air intake screen for the radiator. I have pictures of three or four different versions of them. Some may be off the shelf stuff they were evaluating, some may be of their own design. In my pictures you will see different tin work, ladders, axles, ac components, fuel tanks, etc.
There were a few different designs for the folding unload auger too, one being a rotating turret much like the New Holland TR70 had.

What was consistent though, was the machines were all of the standard cylinder, straw walker design of the 60 series. They kept the centered grain tank with centered engine behind also but added a centered cab. The cab was much bigger. Late model pictures have Agri King style seat, adjustable steering wheel and colored gauges like the 70 series tractors. Also consistent in my pictures is all machines had a feeder house with quick-attach heads. As you can see the pickup heads were wider with 5 belts. Straight heads had hydraulic controlled variable speed reel drives. I don't have pictures of corn heads.

What was consistently missing in most my pictures was lack of diesel engines and hydrostatic drive transmissions, but Case already offered them in the 60 series so I'm presuming they would add them as options in the final designs.

Never get tired of seeing those pictures. I am able to see how some things are changed from the 60 series and how some stayed the same. For us guys still running the 1660 and 1665 Case combines it would be the "Holy Grail" to find one of those machines today. Too bad they didn't keep one for a museum viewing. Like I have said before it is strange that no one involved in the R&D on those machines has come forward. Time is running out or all involved will be gone.

Love seeing these pictures although I have to admit not knowing much about Case combines. I only remember one in our area.

Every time I see these they remind me of a New Holland combine? Would the Case engineers have jumped to New Holland? Not the first time that happened.

Jim

Straw Boss,
You were the original poster... was hoping to see more from other contributers! They look like they were pushing the trends (center mounted cab, pre-screener for the radiator, more mobility for the dump auger) but keeping the guts the way they worked would have been a great combine. Kinda like the AVRO Arrow story here in Canada... cancelled but if they had only marketed them... any more pictures from your archive possible here? By email? Thank you for your contribution! Brian

Good day,
Nice to hear you are still running those machines. Finding one of those prototypes just in a museum would be great... do you have pics up in the forum? What do you push through your combines? No pics for me as we got out of grain farming in 1984 (switching to beef) and the first of our 1060s was sold. The last (and our first bought) 1060 was sold a few years later. I trucked grain when I was 12/13 years old and ground several hours on the 1060s until I was 20 years old till they were sold. The 1060 I ran pushed the IH rotary we had bought but the feeder housing clutch was a weak spot (prevented plugging though!). They ran so sweet and the chysler power was just right... Brian

Have 2 1665s and 3 1660s and a parts 1660. Also have 1160, 600s, and my son has numerous 960s and 660s. I run JD heads on the combines and thresh wheat beans and corn.

Good day,
Yes - recall seeing the JD headed 1660s in the discussions. Massive machine but couldn't convince dad to go up to it when we were looking for second 1060 (the seive supports seemed to always work off and damage the sheet metal)... and he was convinced that 52" was too wide and the crop wouldn't thresh evenly. I think the power would have been right and operation identical (but at 12 years old you don't have much sway on your parents!). Nice line up between you and your sons. I would like to come around harvest time and put a couple hours of grinding in just to feel it again... Brian
