6620 vs 9500 JD Sidehill?

I have a 6620 level land combine with a 6 row corn head. I have been told this is not the machine for a 6 row head. It does good on the flat, but when I get into the hills, I have trouble with grain running to the downhill side and out the back. Obviously a sidehill would be better, but my real question is how much difference is there from a 6620 to a 9500? Should I be looking at a 9500 sidehill? Do they still make side hill combines? Thanks in advance for any input

The 9500 will outdo a 7720 in nearly all conditions. You would be making a big step up to go to one of them. Unless your hills are very steep (and maybe yours are) the top sieve is long enough on a 6620 to keep 6 rows in the machine at reasonable speeds. If your top sieve is too tight it will compound any loss you may have. Not only does it limit the amount of opening in the sieve but it makes the air coming through the holes have more pressure, which can cause additional loss. Mike

A JD 6620 is just not the machine for high yielding corn with a 6x30 head in todays hybrids. IF your looking to gain capacity look for a JD 9500 or JD 9510 side hill.

Cousin had a 6620 and a 9400. Both considered good combines but the 6620 is a 4 row machine which we still farmed wide 4 row and had a 444 head. When he traded for the 9400 we ran the 444 head on it for a few years and it was very touchy to set in corn because the cylinder was not full all the time. He switched to six row narrow and the 9400 shelled the corn like it was supposed to. Parts would be a concern on a 6620 and/or 7720 as they have not been manufactured for over 20 years now.

Well look at it this way if all you can afford is a 6620 side hill buy it cause I don't care how big of level land combines you buy when it's wet steep and or frozen that big ol level land combine isn't gonna touch it and that 6620 side hill gonna walk on by! And your butt cheeks aernt puckered either! We got a 6620 titan 2 Five years ago after dad laid the old 615 ih on her side! Havent had a part we needed yet we couldn't get! And for as capacity it does fine for us even ran in 225 bushel corn with a 6 row head Got it done!

How fast can you go? Not that it's a race, but with my level land 6620 and 6 row head on the side hills, I am going 1 mph. It's hard to do that and get any ground covered. I had an old boy tell me you turn the outside augers around and keep the grain on the inside of the shaker bed, but won't that slow me down on the flats too? I don't want to average 1.3 mph everywhere. I can go 2.5 - 3.5 on the flats an not lose any corn out the back now. Thanks everyone for their help!!

Roger the fellows still running a JD 6620 Titian II with 6x30 headers and 200 plus corn that is over 20% moisture will be running 1.8-2.0 MPH. In corn under 20% then they will usually be in the 2.5-3 MPH in good corn.

Roger, how far do you have the chaffer open? In sidehill conditions you have to open it up about as far as it will go and give the corn as much of a chance to fall through as possible. Also, if you have lots of trash riding directly on the chaffer it will carry the corn over as well. Open up the chaffer and crank the air. You want volume of air and not pressure. Too tight on the chaffer setting and you will carry over much more corn. Mike
