Anyone ever go from a 2188 to a 2388

Was it worth it or too similar. My 2188 is a 97. Are there any more benefits in going all the way up to an 04 2388? I don't know how the last ones built differ from the earlier ones. Thanks

IF your not running a bigger header you will have trouble keeping that 2388 full and it will not clean as well as your 2166 will full.

I thought I'd have to go to an 8-row. Probably should just stay with a 6 and be happy and keep my 12 row planter. Spra coupe is 60ft too. Thanks. Didn't like the tracks? I was apprehensive when I bought my Cat 55. I love it now. Sure was nice on a cart in this wet year.

2388 has more HP and a better cooling system. Much better for unloading on the go. The earlier 2388's had trouble with the rotor gear box H bracket cracking and breaking when full power was needed like in tough irrigated wheat. The H bracket is what the gear box mounts to and is a pain to replace. We were running five of the first 100 2388's made and the H brackets were breaking the first summer. Later CIH came out with a supposedly heavier bracket. The cleaning shoe side rails were breaking on occasion too but it seemed like they only broke in heavy 130 bushel irrigated wheat. We were running 8 2388's the last 3 years we had them and all of them showed those two problems. Running that rotor at 850-1000 RPM's in tough crops using every pony the engine has all day long for weeks on end puts more stress on the gear box than many seasons of running corn and beans so the Midwest corn bean farmer might never encounter them.

I'm running a 6 row and a 25' flex on a 2388. It might not be ideal but it works. In your high yield environment I doubt there would be a problem. Mine is an 05, great combine.

Later 2388 and 2588 were quite different from early 2388. The main improvements were the AFX rotor (better rotor intake in tough straw) and a hydraulic header reverser. The early machine not much different than 2188.
