If I remember right, that 1660 had a 301cu.in. diesel from a 830 in it. Someone replaced the 318 Chrysler with a 830 engine. I got a 1665 that needs a engine and a 301 laying here, thinking of doing that same thing. Wonder how the power would compare to the 318.

the chrysler was in that 1660 still when i looked it was there from 2006 to 2010 it left in early 2011 havent seen it since

Factory Engine options for the "1660" were 354 Perkins Diesel or 318 Chrysler Industrial

Jon F and I were talking about switching his 1160 to a 301 or 336. That's why I bought a 660 because I didn't want a Chrysler engine.

Nothing wrong with the Chrysler engines. Had them in Case combines since 75 and never had one let me down. It's just that I have a 301 and wonder if the diesel would pull the 1665 as good as the 318.

The biggest challenge might be getting the combine internals to run at the correct speed due to the diesels operating at slower rpms than the 318, but I'm just speculating. I'd like to see that project.

Shouldn't be a problem as the 318 ran at 2150 and the engine I have came from a diesel 1160 many years ago. Case spun the 301 to 2150 rpm also when on the combine.

the 301 running at 2150 rpm will put out 88-90 hp, the 318 is 100hp, you should get better torque from the dsl in small grains I would say it would do fine, in heavy Corn she may be a few ponies short,, I Love the 318's but would Love to find a dsl too

(quoted from post at 14:45:09 01/11/15) could somone get an 930 or1030 dsl in an 1660 because that would get the power you want
I think the weight would break the machine in half!
