Mike Aylward 45 QT Feeder House

Mike, I asked you a while back how much the QT feeder house moved the sickle forward above and beyond the old non-QT platform. We finally got the QT on the combine after 6 new bearings in the feeder house and every single bearing on the 10 ft QT platform. The measurement difference at the tips of the guards is 20 additional inches. It's nice! No more standing on my head to see the sickle. A guy can now just sit up straight in the seat and see what he is doing rather than being hunched over the steering wheel. I thought you might like to know just as an "FYI".

I wanted to take some pictures to post here but rain hit and we had to run the combine to the shed before I could get that done. We did some updates to the 10 ft QT header that I wanted to share pics of. Poly on the floor, poly auger fingers, 900 series reel bats with plastic fingers and bolt in sections in the sickle.

Good information and thanks for sending it along. I know the feederhouse itself does not set the platform that far forward. A good part of it is apparently in the platform itself. And I agree, getting it out front farther is a very good thing on a 45. One word of caution, though. You likely will need some rear weight to counter this additional length. Find some wheel weights from a 4400 combine (easily and cheaply found) and you should be good to go. Mike

Thanks for the advice on the wheel weights. I have weights, both inside and outside sets but they are not installed. I may do a little testing to see how light it is.
