YouTube corn picking

Ran across this on YouTube, some different pickers and is that an independent sheller in there also?

Who made pickers on the left side of the tractor, never seen any of those before?

Was thinking it was pretty crowded in that field, and then someone bops the wagon ahead of him!

Advertised as JD pickers, less JD than the other makes in it.

Field full of pickers

Looks like video from the Half Century of Progress in Rantoul, Illinois. IH, John Deere and Ford made pickers that mounted to the rear/side of tractors to pick one row at a time. I can't speak for most parts of the country, but in my area, southeast MN, JD pickers were not the most popular-IH and New Idea were the pickers of choice by the local farmers.

I have never thought about putting an umbrella on a picker tractor, not even the slightest. Here in NWIA we sometimes couldn't pile on enough clothes to stay warm picking corn. That 50 came real close to a dented upper grille. I didn't see the gravity wagon jump so he must not have hit it.

Yep it was at half century of progress, here is another pic of the sheller. I never saw it in action. And a few more pics just because :)

There were lots of 1-row pickers around here. The JD semi-mounts, and Wood Brothers/Dearborn pull-type pickers were the common left hand machines. There was one Co-Op that was left hand. New Idea, IH, and Oliver 1-row pickers were all right hand, as were the only MM, Case and Ferguson examples I've ever seen. Ford mounted 1-rows were right hand. There were some shortline pickers that were never around here like General Implements and maybe even David Bradley/Sears that were left hand.

I never heard of those G. I pickers. I live in the indpls area and around here it was new idea;wood bros and oliver were the 3 most popular a few jd s and i h s here and there.ANd allises. The a/c #33 were know for guys getting caught in as they didnt take green corn stalks very well. What surpprised me is that the ford pickers were putting so much trash into the wagons.I had always heard they picked cleaner than the others. Right up there with new idea.I have a dearborn 2 row mounted on a wd 45 ac that i want to fix up and try.My N.I. #7 picked clean but shelled so much in the row. Great video . :D

Yes, Half Century. The guy that made the video is from here at Arthur. His name in Ernest Bontreger. He has many ag and amish related videos like this. He is on You Tube.

Has anybody watched the foreign corn pickers. looks like combines but picks ear corn ? Awesome machines!! And check out the way they handle and crib it. They got that elevator and unloading the crib thing figured out!! :D

They still pick hybrid seed corn on the ear.

Looks like they have modernized and kept up with modern tools on that, wonder how fas ya could fill a crib with this setup.
