GUYS ? We need some help figuring out this 750 massey ,,,just put a NEW turbo on 354 perkins ,,.it still wont start unless ethered, smokes bad , and no power, slow pickup .....,same as it did before we installed the NEW turbo charger ... ,, before that ,, we changed ALL NEW Air Filters and Fuel Filters ,after installing the turbo ,yesterday, we took off air intake and started with ether on warm motor, and it still ran the same ....no improvement...is the motor toast ?,, it had developed a sneaky hose leak and got hot and required 3 gallons of coolant earlier this season are ALL theFuel inJectors Bad ? ,, we are thinking pull injectors next and get rebuilt ,do a compression test while open ?? wonder if the injection pump is needing rebuilt? this combine always started and ran good ...

How hot did it get, and for how long? May have stuck rings along with melted/scored pistons and sleeves. Should have lots of blow by though if this is the case. If the hydraulic head in the injection pump is severely worn it will need ether to start, even worse when pump is hot. The fuel that should go in time to a given port will also partially go to the outlet before and after due to scoring of the rotor and barrel inside. If the engine blow by seems normal I would have the injection pump serviced to see what shape it's in. If one or more injectors have one or more holes plugged smoke will increase too as the fuel will not be evenly atomized in the piston bowl.

I'd suggest a compression test before throwing more money at it if it's been hot. You might be able to find another good running 750 for what a rebuild will cost.

have the injector pump tested I bet you will find your problem, while you have the pump off test the injectors also there might be one of them that's needs replacing, company next door to the one I worked for had a crane with a new ford industrial engine in it, they always had to start it on ether, it finally quit and I got asked to check it, I knew the pump was shot but they didn't believe it until I pulled the drain plug and out came water, fuel and very little oil, funny thing was they just took the pump off got it repaired a bolted it back on I tried to steer clear of it but after three mechanics? and enough ether to start a locomotive I got volunteered into timing it, believe it or not it cranked and ran fine even with all the ether it had shot to it

thanx for responses ,update ,ran it a little yesterday ,Now ,from how it responded , started rite up in mid 50s , and stalled couple 2nds later ,LOST PRIME ???,, ether started ,ran up slow but smooth ..NO POwer .. I am suspecting the fuel filter gasket could be wrong and starving it for fuel and suckin air ,,.
