Gleaner F and Fks interchangeability

I am in the process of
purchasing a Gleaner F, serial
number F23493 and a FKS serial
Fks 34228, to be used on a high
school agriscience farm. We will
be restoring them this winter
and using one to combine about
30 acreas of various crops year
to year. More or less it just a
toy to teach restoration and a
little combining with.The F runs
and is in good shape the Fks
doesn't but has two soy heads
and two corn heads to go with
it. Are the parts (gears walkers
and such) interchangeable
between the two? I would also
like to find out the years of
both machines. Both are diesels
if I remember correctly. Any
help or advice would be greatly
appreciated on what to look for
and what to watch for. New to
combines, I have ran haybines
and corn pickers but never got
into combines until now. Thanks
in advance.

Not a real expert, but have a book in front of me. The F is a 74 and the Fks is a 76. the Fks is a corn soy special. There are others on this board who can tell you what the differences are but I believe they are minor. most parts will interchange. the engine is an AC 301 if a diesel, otherwise an AC262 or Chev 292. Good basic machines to teach with.

Thanks so much for that info. I was hoping that the parts would interchange, the Fks has sit outside so some of the sheet metal has rus holes in all the wrong places, however all the insides are good along with the headers.

Ag Teacher,
My experience is with a KKS ( K Corn and Soybean Special). The base machine is the same. There are several options that came on the KKS. Most were designed to allow for a cleaner sample in the bin.
Some of the options were:
Iron vs plastic rod guides on the feeder beater.
Belt drive on the Cylinder - 3 belt and Sheave combos 8" 16" & 20".
Perforated clean grain panel with a removable cover.
Perforated grain elevator with cover panel.
Perforated return elevator bottom & solid - exchangeable.

When Soybeans or edible beans (e.g. Navy beans) were run thru, these options allowed dirt to be separated from the clean grain.

These Combines had other options so each could be dressed up or a Plain Jane.
Been awhile since I had mine. So I may not remember exactly, but I hope you get the idea.

The basic machines should be very similar.

As mentioned, some of the small details will be different, rasp and concave bars, chain/ pulley size options, screen and or risers on the straw walkers, and such details to favor one crop or another in the name of it.
