Gleaner K Transmission Removal

Just wondering if anyone on here has any tips or tricks to removing a tranny on a gleaner k? It doesn't look very fun, but it has to be done.

I did mine several years ago. Don't remember exactly how I did it, but it wasn't too bad a job. Think I used a floor jack to let it down and to put it back. It's not overly heavy, just clumsy in an awkward position. Of course I was a lot younger then and could bend and stuff much easier. The input shaft broke. thresher would run, but combine wouldn't move. Finished the last two rounds of beans with a neighbor in the combine and I pushing it with the loader tractor.

The book says to remove the left hand final drive and then move the tranny to the left to remove the right hand shaft out of it. This thing is making some pretty bad noises, I hesitate about running or moving it anymore than I have to, I know the tranny is junk now but I don't want to mess up my new clutch! Do you remember how you took the old one out and put the new one in as in pulled it out the side of the combine or the front? Looks like the front might give you the most clearance.

I think I took it out the front. I know I didn't remove anything major like a final drive. I think it was about 20 years ago and its almost scary how much I'm forgetting. Didn't have a repair manual. Just crawled under and started unbolting. Don't remember if I did or not in this case , But I have been known to use a cutting torch to enlarge openings so stuff will come out and/or go back in.
