JD 6600 Straw walkers plugging

Hey guys, hoping some of you combine experts might be able to shed some light on this problem. Neighbors have a 6600 deere trying to harvest corn with. Its running a 4 row header through 100-120 bushel corn running about 1.5-2mph. They are having problems with the walkers getting overloaded with material and slipping the straw walker slip clutch. I went down last night to help them trouble shoot but really can't find an issue. The stalks just seem to set on the walker and not walk out the back of the combine. I did some searching last night and told them to check the spacing on the stripper plates, thinking maybe they are to narrow and allowing the extra trash to come into the combine. Any other ideas or suggestions are apprieciated. Thanks Jeff

What's the corn like? There should not be that much stalk going through. Are the rolls pulling the stalk down through? They can be built up with a welder if needed (replacement is better...)

The walkers really should have a load of cobs, husks, etc. but not a lot of stalk.

Are the fan pulleys and belts in good condition and working properly. Fan should be set fast for corn. We use to run a 4 row all crop head in corn, never had problem with stalks or debris plugging the walkers.

Is the walker clutch slipping because of the trash, or is there a lot of trash on the walkers because the clutch is slipping? I suspect the clutch may not be operating correctly. That, or the combine is a wheat combine with different openings in the walkers causing the holes to plug up with stalks. A properly adjusted 6600 should take four rows of average corn MUCH faster than that. Mike

is the engine running at governed speed,is the walker drive pulley shaft running at the correct speed ,if the walkers are running to slow they can't move the material

Are they running it at full throttle? That is a must for any combine to work properly. Then check the stripper plates for spacing. 1 1/8 front 1 1/4 rear this is from the seat looking forward. Yes they are wider in the rear so the material will not get stuck in the plates. Are the snapping rolls in good shape this will help with pulling the stalks and trash down through. Are the stripper plates centered over the rolls? then are the gathering chains correct tension. These all keep the trash down going into the machine. There should be a minimum of stalk going into the machine. Then as has already been said about the slip clutch and drive.
