Gleaner Trouble Again

Started picking a field today and kept hearing a slight grinding like sound and got out a couple times, looked around didn't see anything wrong so kept picking, backed up and started in another row then pow! Transmission broke, it broke where the small end of the bell crank went to the main part (side) of the tranny, I couldn't tell if it bolts up to it or if it was one piece and broke in half. The combine has been a pain to shift gears in since I've had it, you'll think its in neutral and its still in a gear so I'm thinking it got in a bind and went.

Yikes.

Was that an F? The shaft behind the left wheel going into the tranny, that bell housing broke?

Paul

It was a K, yeah right behind the clutch and throw out bearing, right where it meets the side of the tranny, it broke there, destroyed the traction belt too. Do you know if that bell housing bolts to the tranny or is it made in it? I couldn't get under it to see due to all the oil everywhere

I don't know Gleaners, but even if it bolts together you will be looking for both parts if there was gear oil everywhere. You cracked/broke the transmission.

Forgot to say - don't know where you are, but call Mike's Equipment in Buhler, KS. They do combine salvage and have had everything I have ever needed. Very good people to deal with.

I've done a lot with F machines, the bell housing is bolted on, but if you lost oil, it broke on the tranny side.....

The Mountain Lake MN dealership does a lot of parting out, don't remember your location....

My brother's K did that same thing, had a bearing in trans went out, never heard it and let 2 gears hook up when they shouldnt have, split the case. No wonder it always shifted hard...

Rboots, that sounds like what happened here, fun part will be taking it out and putting the other one in.
