I miss my old Jon Deere 4400 combine

I began to get a great deal of trash in my clean grain bin in corn on my JD 6620 Titan 2.. It continued to get worse no matter any change in combine settings.. I finally pulled the chaffer and sieve from the machine and I discovered that the chaffer had dropped down onto the sieve and caused major damage.
I can not understand what caused this unless the chaffer had not been installed properly when I had a new fan shroud installed at a repair shop.
But than again I should have checked that when I brought the machine home even though I trust the mechanics that did the work.
Now I am waiting on the new sieve and chaffer to arrive so I can begin the harvesting again. I was hoping to be done before the snow begins but Murphy has other plans.
I like the 6620 but I do miss my old 4400.

I swear to you that our old Massey super 92 made a way cleaner sample than the 9500. I look at what goes I to the tank and it makes me mad. I wish I had an old Massey now. I'd use that sucker in a heartbeat. My harvest time would be counted in weeks, but that clean sample was really a point of pride for us.

Your JD 9500 will clean grain well. You do it with the air flow as much as the chaffer. Also you really need to watch where you set the adjustable pre-cleaner. Anything that drops through it goes straight to the tank.

Also that machine has a lot of capacity. I have seen older guys sued to the older machine go too slow and get terrible results. Keep it full and it will do a much better job.

ONLY adjust one thing at a time. It is harder to set than the older machines to get that sweet spot.

Make sure and check the rubber swing arm bushings. If they are loose you will break the chaffer and sieve.

Also the finger bar that is right behind the shoe augers needs to be in good shape. It keeps chaff/cobs from falling in front of the chaffer frame when it swings to the rear.

The cleaning system on your JD 6620 is the exact sample one as is on the JD 4400. The JD 6620 is just wider.

Make sure you are running enough fan speed to float the chaff back over the chaffer. IF it is just laying on the chaffer fingers than you will have dirtier grain. IF your at full speed and still not getting enough air flow check the variable sheave on the fan speed adjustment. They are bad about the back wearing off by the thrust bearing. Then your limited on your top fan speed. The belt should be clear out to the top of the pulleys when at full speed.

You should be able to have a very clean sample fairly easily.

Also like I posted below, if your driving your JD 6620 T11 like you did your JD 4400 your going too slow. If it is not full the chaffer will not float the chaff out like it should. Going slower actually makes it worse.

It seems that way with green combines. It seems that far more fan speed is needed than is ever suggested in the operators manual.. I wonder how the engineers came to their conclusions?

a lot of the old massey had a 3 screen set-up with the the chaffer going all the way to the back, in corn and beans turn the air all the way up, almost close the short section at the front of the chaffer if was that type, open the rest of it as much as possible and still keep out the stems or cob open the return part little wider than the rest of the chaffer, set the middle one a little wider than the grain, close the bottom just tight enough it to throw some grain into the return and as long as the yield was reasonable you get clean grain ,the ones with the screens positioned like a door step were another matter, all that said make sure your not over threshing then turn the air high as possible without blowing grain out the back then set the screens, some machine have adjustable deflectors between the fan and shoe, have seen them set to flat or broken not directing the airflow right, crop condition has a lot to do with cleaning
