Well I finally got done Wednesday late afternoon just before it rained again. Thursday it rained on and off all day so no loading the semi, But today it was clear and my cousin came over to load out this afternoon. Nice and sunny but a little cool when we were loading the semi. Dad manned the 1550 and ran the auger while I ran ever thing else. Dad was unable to run his Gleaner K this year but he kept a close eye on me and what I was doing wrong and let me know it!

He wasn't to keen on me trying to cut Wednesday but he said it was the right call, I told him you just got to have a little faith in me, I cant be wrong all the time! He just laughed. Another season is done and the last 6 wagons got unloaded onto the semi and when we were done dad was tired and so was I. He headed to the house to get warm and to take it easy while I put every thing away in the barn.

Before my cousin left he came over and said he had called the mills to check the prices and said that down at the river there paying $.51 more a bu than Wilmington so I told him take them to the river. More money! I love it when a plan comes together! Well I hope next year is a better year than this one, This one was sure screwed up from start to finish. As we all say "These always next year"! Feels good does t it?

Got too much cleaning up, emptying out, put away yet and they are talking 6 inches of snow by Monday and no warming in sight after that, I'm not ready and won't be by Monday!

But at least the crops are out and wife is almost done with chisel plowing.

I remember working with dad, I took out some wheat we had in swaths one year, it was 1.5% too high on moisture and dad was kinda mad at me for the dockage. I said but they forcast heavy rains tomorrow, could lose it all? Grumble grumble, it would dry out, not take a dockage.......

Well, that night it rained a bit, the next day it poured over 5 inches in a short time, we had lakes everywhere, the straw all washed into the corn fields and road ditches beside the fields or big piles in the low spots, couldn't even get it baled up for straw any more.

One of the few times dad ever said maybe I was right......

Makes me laugh! You got one of those too? My shoulder was bothering me so my wife and daughter changed out 48 stalk roller knives last week while I worked up top on the gatherer chains. My other daughter joined in at one point. I think the days when we all work together are priceless. The OP clearly likes working with his Dad...I can relate.

Bandit I always like reading you experiences. Just enjoy those times with your Dad. They are over for me. He will come out to the field once in a while but doesn't stay long. Usually long enough to tell me he feels useless. He always took the wagons to the elevator so I could keep threshing. Now he doesn't see good enough to drive. I guess life happens.

I have been farming together with dad as long as I can remember. I kept the fender shinned on his AC WD when I was a kid and milked cows with him. In 1978 with dads blessing I bought my first SP combine with a bank loan witch was unheard of for a sophomore in high school, I gave $2700 for a Gleaner A11 and had it paid for in 2 years doing custom work. Dad taught me well.

A year ago September dad got a blood clot in his leg and spent a month in the hospital then 2 months in a nursing home before he came home. He could only watch as I cut beans and load out trucks. I know it was killing him not to be in the cab of his K cutting beans with me and it was me too seeing him just sit in the truck watching me. This spring he did climb on my Long and no-till beans with the drill and he was very happy doing it. This fall he has slowed down some as he has to walk with a cane now and is wobbly on his feet now, But let him on a tractor and he's ready to go. He has arthritis in his hands and its hard for him to work on stuff now and like your dad he said he feels useless now and I tell him he's not and help him do it. We still do as much as we can together on and off the farm and we both enjoy it. Mom wants him to stop the farming but its like I told her its what is keeping him going so let him do what he wants as long as he can. I know he wont be hear forever so I will enjoy what ever time I have left with him. That's why I bought the Oliver 1550 utility, Its dads tractor to use as he can get on and off easer than the others and he likes it. He would do the same for me. Bandit
