JD 6620 breaking cobs

I just ran a bin full of corn and I noticed a scattering of cob pieces in the bin with the corn.
I also have some ears going thru the combine with some corn on them. Just finished doing beans and then set the machine for corn. Should I change the concave setting and maybe close it down some?
Also wondering if I should change the cylinder speed. It is around 500 now. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your time.

Dugger here
I would do both
Slow it down to at least 300-350
And close it down some till cobs are clean

Thanks Dugger and Tom. I will do what you both suggested.
Waiting now for the trucker to come. If you don't have storage you are at the mercy of the haulers.

How dry is the corn???

What are the cobs like coming out the back... are most of them whole, or are they broken to pieces?

It's hard to shell corn off broken cobs... make sure concave is OPEN enough to allow most cobs to come through unbroken.

Then assess what's left on the cob. If there is a little left on, speed up the cylinder.

Some corns can be difficult to shell, especially if wet or frozen before they got totally ripe.

If the cobs are broken lengthwise the concave is too close. If the cobs are broken crosswise the concave is too loose. If you are getting cobs in the tank close your bottom screen. I like to close them completely, then open until you hear corn go through. Your little finger will be a close gauge. Cobs should come out of the combine pretty much completely whole until they get to the straw chopper. Mike
