new combine

While I was loading TMR this morning the local CIH dealer pulled in to the farmers yard with a new 7230 combine. Looks like a big sucker to me. Bigger than his current unit. I figured at least $300,000 and my son figures $400,000 or better. I expect his guess is closer. What say you fellers?

Judging from those prices,$400,000 might be a little on the light side also? I would guess his old combine will bring him a good trade-in though. It looks to be in pretty good shape.

Dairy farming has been decent for the last couple of years and the dairy guys are taking advantage of the situation to replace worn out equipment before it collapses into a pile of junk. This fellow is a very astute businessman who takes care of his cows and his land. He is selling TMR to around ten other smaller guys like my son, so his combine and his forage harester are the two most important pieces of equipment on the farm. Considering all of the structure improvements he did this year and the combine, I suspect it is a matter of updating or giving the money to the stinkin' goobermint anyway.

There's plenty money in farming! Goes to the seed dealer, fertilizer dealer, equipment dealer, parts dealer, tire shop.....
