Gathering chains

Ok, need some tips. Have a IH 1063 corn head and on occasion a gathering chain will jump off and get wedged between snapping rolls/knives. What is the easiest way to get these out. Seems like I have to fight an hour to get them out every time. Must be a easier way. Advice?

I usually just turned the head backwards till the knifes would release the chain. It also helped to loosen the stripper plates and widen them out. There is only two bolts to loosen on each side and tap them back with a hammer.

You need to do some checking for other problems. We have run 963,1063, and still have a 1083 head in use, the only time we have ever had a chain do that is when they are worn out. Make sure your adjuster springs are good and your front roller slides aren't worn letting the front roller drop down. Keep your tension set to about 3/8 inch between the pipe and flat washer.
