Looking for a head for sunflowers. Wondering what brands are out their or if making one isn't to bad. Would a row crop bean head from jd work? J

I believe you can bolt 'pans' on a grain head and it becomes a sunflower head......

They catch the head or seeds and guide them back into the auger.

Google 'sunflower pans' go to images and you will see.

I saw pans advertised within the last two weeks- maybe Fargo craigslist Farm & Garden. Ad had pics, so would be easy to copy. Sunnies used to be popular in the Dakotas....likely you could find pans there if you can make contact with someone there.

This is how I combined them some years back... Lucke sunflower pans, made in ND, with a finger reel.

Some used a john deere row crop head. These can be bought cheap but cost a small fortune to rebuild.

Keep several hand pump sprayers full of water within easy reach on the combine. Sunflower dust smolders very easily!

I designed and helped my brother make an attachment many years ago. We used angle iron to make frames, pop riveted corrugated sheet metal into the frames between the rows and used the standard combine reel. Brother used it for several years before he stopped growing sunflowers after the contract price went down too low to make any money.

Used 2 different sets of pans on 2 1660 JI Case machines. Did a lot of custom work as not many people wanted to put the pans on their combine heads for sunflowers.

Thanks for all the advise guys! Ill be planting with a jd 12 row corn planter and got two massey 750 combines but probably only going to use one for them. Im not sure how many acres yet but probably around 70 - 100.
Now that I know where to look an what to look for ill be looking. Thanks Again!!

I just got done harvesting with a jd row crop head. It works great but I did put taller sides and a guard on the back. Neighbor uses a corn head with special stripper plates that was doing a great job. He said they cost 3500 for an 8 row head
