Belt dressing

How many of you guys use belt dressing? I would like to hear the pros and cons as I am still undecided about using it.

I had an old MF 750 that the traction belts were about wore out and I have some pretty good hills, so I would spray them down good a couple of times a day to get around. Worked good for me. I can't see how it would hurt anything. Chris

Works on a bit of a loose v belt that got smoothed down a bit too much.

I sorta remember dad and uncle using it on the flat belt of the silage blower, pretty much regular.

Belt dressing does work but the old deere mechanic told me that it eats away a very thin layer of the belt and makes it rough again so it can get traction so it may shorten the life the belt a bit ? maybe he used mineral oil he said it penetrates the belt and softens the ruber and allows better traction kind of rejuvenating the what you have I did it on my 7700 unloading auger belt for several years and never had to replace it those of you that know 7700 know you only replace that belt when you must

Most belt dressing you buy at the local farm supply stores is nothing more than a solvent. If you want good sticky belt dressing you can make it. Steam cylinder oil, pine tar, rosin mixed together and heated up to melt the rosin. When it is on a belt it sounds like you are tearing a bandaid off. You can't beat it.

Last belt dressing I bought, the main ingredients in the can were acetone(solvent) and asphalt(liquefied by the acetone).

It got all over the paint and everything and was a nightmare to clean up.
