1460 wiring

Wondering if anyone on here has a wiring diagram. My key
won't start the engine and not sure what wires I need to chase

I don't know if this will show up well enough but I'll try it anyway. My owner's manual has a series of wiring diagrams on pages 86 to 91. If you don't have a manual or access to one, post your e-mail and I'll scan and e-mail them to you.

It helps. I am having problems with the starter solenoid in the
engine compartment. Ii have power. And have 12 volts
coming from the switch but it won't activate. I bought a new
solenoid and am still having the same problem.

I have to work on it some more. I have power to the solenoid from the battery. If I jump across the large posts it starts. It has to be something with the key switch or ground. I have 12 volts, to the wire that closes the circuit for the solenoid, when you turn the key to start it just won't activate it. I need to make sure i have it wired right. I just got a ford solenoid from the parts store because the one that was on it wasn't the right one.

I would yes to safety switches but I have no volts coming from the key then 12 volts as you urn the key to the start position. I am wondering if I don't have enough amps from the key to make the solenoid work

If your solenoid has three terminals, the frame or case of the solenoid must be grounded.

If your solenoid has four terminals, two of the terminals will be smaller. Of those two, one is power from your key and one is a ground. It shouldn't matter which one you put the hot from the key on unless they are marked + and -.

It sure sounds like the solenoid is lacking a ground.

CIH service should be willing to give you a copy of a schematic. My guy faxed one to me. They are pretty basic as schematics go but trying to tie them into the actual wiring can be a trick in itself.

Ok I have only 6 volts now to the wire going back to the back solenoid. I have 12 coming out of the key switch. Could one of the safety switches be an issue? I have an ih solenoid on it now. But with only 6 volts I'm sure it won't trip the solenoid switch. Where should I look now
