Platform Reel not lowering

Have a 216 head on JD 9500. The reel is not lowereing. The reel speed is working but not the up/down cylinders. When pressing the button I seem to hear hydraulics but reel is not moving down. Any idea on why?
 
have you checked the quick coupler/s for the reel height? I have seen dirt/debris get in the female body and they hook up but will not flow on other things before, even seen the ball seats stick as well one end or the other

Couple of things - the reel seems the first affected when hydro is low. Have you checked the fluid? It's also how I know that the o-ring has gone out of the RWA and is dumping fluid all over the ground. When it starts being funny I know I'm in for o-ring repairs in the field.

Second, the reel height gave me fits and did just what you describe last year. It ended up being the the unloading auger. If the auger does not park correctly or the solenoid goes out it will keep the one way cylinders on the reel from working properly. I can't recall just why, but I want to say that it is charging the whole system with pressure and won't let the one way cylinders dump their fluid. I had the valve stack rebuilt and the unloading auger solenoid replaced and it fixed the mysterious reel issues. I talked to the mechanic and they are somehow related. It's also the same reason why the header would sometimes stay up for months and sometimes drop overnight. That unloading auger solenoid would cause odd hydraulic things.
 
Check to see if another hydraulic function is open, such as your unloading auger switch. This will cause the symptoms you describe. Mike
 
Mike would know more about this than I. But is it possible the solenoid is buzzing but the valve inside is sticking enough not to let the reel down. It will go up because there is enough pressure coming from the pump to unstick it and move the reel up.
