Wonder what the engine was on the Gleaner. It is newer than the Gleaner we had, which had a Model C Ford engine (the Industrial version of the Model A engine).

Uncle had 2 MH 21A's of the same vintage; operator ate a lot of dirt on those machines.
 
(quoted from post at 13:00:26 09/23/14) Aluminum air scoop would indicate 1948 or 1949 Gleaner. So it could be a 6 cylinder Waukasha or 6 cylinder Ford engine.
Sorry to jump in here, but thought with the talk about Gleaners I might ask a question.
I'm looking for some pictures of a 1938 pull type Gleaner and hoping that someone here has some. This is for an aquaintance whose grandfather bought one new in 1938. Of course the machine has log ago left the family but he'd like some pictures.
