John Deere 6620 rotary screen collects corn leaves

I don't think the rotary screen on my JD 4420 is working like it should. Seems to gather corn leaves and chaff on the outer screen. The book talks about an adjustment between the rotary knife and stationary knife. Book mentions loosening two bolts for adjustment. Still not clear. I have never done anything to change the adjustment. It does look to be wider than the 1/16 to 1/8 inch spacing between the two as recommended in the owners manual. Seal between the door where it sucks chaff and the fan compartment is in very poor shape. I am assuming that this seal is very important??? Any ideas to make it work like it should?? Thanks.

Yes the seal is very important. There is limited vacuum from the engine fan to begin with and if that seal is not perfect it just won't clean the screen. Corn leaves can easily plug the arm even if every thing is in good condition. Deere made a bigger screen that bolts on the outside of the rotary screen to keep leaves away. On a windy day I have to stop every few rounds to clean out the arm on my 6620. Just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

To avoid leaves sticking like this I usually make a run through middle of field, then run combine around that section keeping the fan side always away from standing corn.

did you check to see if it was plugged up? I had mine plug up in 2012 almost everyday with all that dry matter from the drought.
