CIH 1660 - non responsive header lift

Feel like I am missing something here. Getting ready to lift the corn head off my trailer using the combine so I need to raise the lock-out sleeve on the header lift so that I can move the feeder house up and down to pick up the head. The sleeve is jammed tight and the rocker switch on the handle of the hydro drive does nothing. Doesn't move the FH at all. Makes no noise like it is trying to do something either. Am I missing something? Thought I would put this out there while I search for the answer in the book. Kinda need the head off my trailer.

Figured it out...I dunno if it was from sitting a year or what but it wanted a lot of rpm's to get it going. After that it became very responsive.

Have you had a chance to change hydraulic fluid and filters, not that is your problem but it might be due.

Not yet. Been busier than a ... well, been real busy. I will get to it. Today we finally took the 863 corn head off my car hauler. How does one get such a thing out from between the fenders on a trailer? I'll put together some photos soon but for now let me explain. You jack the thing straight up in the air with an assortment of bottle jacks until you can get two 4 x 6 on end underneath it so they extends off both sides of the trailer. THEN you build four cement block piers on the ground under the ends of beams and keep raising it straight up until the header is above the fenders. Then you drive the trailer out from under it. Repeat in reverse to bring it down somewhat, then hook onto the combine and drive it away. Scary as he!!, took all day, but worked like a charm. Pictures of that head sitting up in the air on those piers probably qualifies me for my own reality show.

I taken heads and other bulky machines off of trailers by lifting from each side with loader tractors, and driving the trailer away.

Been known to do that also, except I only have one loader so I raise it and shim one side then raise it with the loader on the other. Having said that, the corn head is here at the house and the loader is sitting out at the farm not being used. I will be fixing that this week. Time for the loader to come spend some time at home.
