JD 4400 feederhouse chain question - followup

I've installed my new feederhouse chain in my '78 JD 4400 combine. I followed the OM instructions the 3/4 to 7/8 inch dimension on the left hand side of the feederhouse and tightened the right side to equal tension. In looking at the tension bolts one side is ahead of the other about 1/4 inch or so. Is this considered normal? Or do I want the tension bolts to be the same length with the possibility on side may be tighter than the other? I ran it it today for about 15 minutes and will check the tension again. Any assistance is always appreciated.
