Gleaner L2 with low low hours

I'm going to look at one with less than 1300 hours and with an 8-30 head and 20 something bean head for less than $10,000. Buy it? I'd like to run it a bit, think I'd have a hard time selling it if I don't like it? Has the bigger motor. What else should I look for or run away.

Which heads are they?

830 orange or 830 black head? Black (A830) is the more recent, more adjustable, and a much better/simpler head.

Bean head- could be a pitman drive or wobble box, floating cutter bar, or an M series flex head if the combine is wired for it. Cutterbar could be regular or specialty like Tiger Jaws, etc. Finger reel or bat reel? Variable reel drive via hyd line or self-contained hyd with electric control?

L2 itself- check chain wear, rock door operational and not sprung, straw chopper? Shaft monitors working? Gear or Hydro drive?

I just sold my 78 L2 with 3200 hrs It had the big engine with a 24ft head. i sold it with extra parts and the homemade head trailer for $5100.

Don't trust the hour meter. If it has a hydro drive, and is year 81 or later - might be worth around 10k if in good condition with the heads. An 830 corn head in good condition isn't very common.

Thank you. I went ahead and passed. Think I can run this farm better by putting that money into something else. Thanks
