No luck advertising elsewhere so shamefully abusing this forum in order to ask you harvester guys if any of you have a IHC binder for parts? Actually could be any make binder as long as it has #55 cast iron chains. I need both plain links and lug links. I know there are places that sell new cast iron chain and steel chain. Hoping to save some from a trip to China or rotting away. I posted an ad in the classifieds here and there is a link to my email there.

Thanks and apologies

Are you looking for something like this? I just collected these from a painted IHC 1P for my 1P Galvanized side discharge. A couple of years ago, I did look at a very early 2MH corn picker that had the Malleable. Another model would be a 2ME if it still had the original chain.

How much do you need?

Sorry that isnt at all like what I have. Mine looks like ordinary #55 chain except cast iron instead of steel like this picture.

I believe that you can use the CA550 chain in your application.

The CA550 is an evolution of the 55 chain, and the pitch is the same (1.630). You would have to see if the width is similar, tho. CA550 is what is common on IH, white and JD combine corn heads. The older heads, that is.

I could be wrong, but I think it will work properly for your application.

Best of luck.

Thanks. I have seen such malleable chain many years ago and will keep an eye out. I originally thought you were looking for gathering chain.

I am looking for gathering chain but the picture just shows the plain links. I also need some links with the fingers.

Sorry for confusing

That is quality information, thanks. I had seen that type chain on older binders but assumed it was a farm shop conversion.

You are most welcome. Here is the whole long
story, in case you get bored.

I recently did a whole bunch of looking for chains
and sprockets for my Fox SPF chopper. The
gathering chain (CA550) is commonly available,
with attachments, and can be acquired through Peer
Chain (7 week lead time). The sprockets are
another story. It turns out that the Fox heads
use a 7 tooth sprocket, which mates with the CA550
chain. But, new idlers for modern corn heads
usually have 8 teeth, witch changes the pitch
diameter, witch in turn pushes the chain off of
the chain guides on the head. I did not care for
that idea.

I found a supplier of sprockets, but they want
$100 per idler. There are 20 idlers on my corn
head. You see the dilemma! I believe that I
acquired the last NOS Fox sprocket from the Parts
Depot, and with that I was able to determine that
my idlers are in fact, quite good. The factory
Fox idler is cast, so they are only holding
+/-.025, if that, on tolerance. So pitch diameter
can vary by almost 1/16th.

I did some rummaging around a local old time parts
dealer, and found a new 7 tooth sprocket. It
turns out that it is from a Loyal elevator, which
uses #55 detachable link chain. So,I measured it;
the tooth profile and pitch diameter is the same
as the Fox NOS sprocket.

There is the story. Glad I was able to share it;
I was pretty excited when I figured it all out!
