New Owner of a JD 105 Combine

Just delivered today. A 69 105 Corn Special. My dad had one just like it when I was a kid. I actually remember sitting on the armrest of the seat with the upper window of the door propped open on hot days. Or in the fall when it was cold, I'd be huddled up near the heater. Man, where does 30 years go?

Anyhow, I wish it was a hydro, but it's not. It does have quick tach feeder house though, which is nice. Gonna be a big project but I have big plans for it. If you know me, then you know what that means. This combine is older that I am, so I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and parts needs so anyone with experience on these, please be sure to let me know. Right now, it has a non running gas engine. But I have a JD 404 turbo diesel that I'm planning on using for the new powerplant. Can't wait till it's self powered becuase dragging and pushing it around is no fun task. Anyhow, here's a few pics I snapped today. Let me know what you think or if you have any improvements in mind. Been scouting around at some other 95/105s and I have lots planned already.

Good looking ole combine. The first combine I ever bought was a 105 in 1988 was pretty well used but got the job done for a few years. Keep us posted on project...John

Congrats!!!I still run the x5 combines.A 95sb at
present. They are among the best(possibly the
bestLOL) of the older combines.Cant beat em!

Did you check to make sure that the machine was still "square" on the drive axles? Some farmers that bought the first 105's towed them around the fields during a wet harvest. Right after harvest they tried to trade them for new Gleaners that had a solid steel frame.

It turned out that they had pulled on the left front axle with a large crawler tractor and the machines were sprung up to 1-1/2" out of line, which put a lot of bearings under stress from being out of line (sounded terrible when the machine was run). Don't know what they did with the combines, but the Gleaner dealers spread the word so nobody would take one on trade.

Na, I'm not too worried about that. It's a local indiana machine, nobody pulls combines thru the field around here.

(quoted from post at 19:32:57 09/04/14) I use JD 105 feeder houses on my JI Case 1660s and
1665. Good lookin machine. Probably same age as my
Case machines.

Those are nice looking machines you have.

When I had my 105, it had a gas engine. Put a 404 diesel from a 7700 in it. Engine mounting and hooking up throttle and electrical was pretty straight forward. I had to get another radiator and I was on a tight budget then. Put a big old truck radiator on it. Was not the prettiest thing to look at but it was a great combine for me at the time.

I wondered when you change the gas for diesel if you change the radiator also. I should have parts to do it. May need a longer throttle cable since that's on the other side on the diesel.

When I changed out the gas motor with the 404 diesel, I used
the the same radiator.and the linkage if I remember worked just
fine

The reason I got another radiator is because the original one was shot.
The trottle linkage does have to be reconfigured.
It is not to hard to figure out.

That is a very sharp looking 105 corn special you have. You will be surprised as to how well it is designed and easy to operate and work on.
I have owned 10 different Deere combines over the yrs. Never bought a new on , just good used ones.
Started with 55 s , last one was a 7700 hydro diesel. Very good machine, but not easy to work on. The 105 was very easy to keep running.clint

I think you should run it for one year with the
gasser so that you can appreciate the power and
fuel consumption of the diesel :).

If you speed up the raddle and clean elevator
chains just a bit it should do well in corn despite
it being 45 years old.

Na, not even gonna try to get the gasser running. I have a fresh 404 diesel to drop in it. The tach on the machine shows 2300 hrs so I'm hoping it is not too worn out. Although there are lots of things froze up from sitting so long that will need attention.

link below for sale in Craigslist Wisconsin Eau Claire sorry picture would not upload. if you looking for parts rig? not sure your location just figured thr price was right. Good Luck

Found it. Very similar to mine. If it were closer, I'd be tempted, but the trucking would eat me up for sure. Maybe they would part it out.

Here's a quick tutorial on how to make pictures from other sites work. Right click the photo. A menu box will pop up. At the bottom, click properties. A window will open. Where it says Adress URL, highlight the entire url that begins with http://
This is the actual location of the file.

Now in the message you are typing on YT, hit the Img button once. Then right click and select paste. Hit the Img button again and you're done. It will paste the image location into your message.
