Super 92 will not idle

Two weeks ago this machine ran perfectly, idled about 500, today when pushing the throttle to slow, it slows down and the governor immediately picks it up to run about mid speed. Could something have happened to the governor or ???
Thanks for any suggestions...Darald

On that machine, the governor is set for full operating speed and the hand throttle doesn"t change that. When you grab the throttle to slow it down, a lever contacts the arm on the governor that links to the carburetor and simply pulls the carburetor butterfly shut to the degree you move the lever.

In other words, the hand throttle overrides governor control of engine speed at all but full operating speed.

Something in the linkage between that arm and the hand lever has worn, come loose, or got out of place.
