If the unloading auger is turned on with it in will damage anything the reason I ask is bc today we was getting the combine ready an the farm hard turned the auger on with it all the way in. I didn't know about it till I got back an was told about it I didn't see any thing broke but I'm new to the 9500 only had two days

An it won't damage anything. I notice at idle the auger only come out half way. Is it sapost to be at full throttle to move the auger out

Trust me, it will come on in any position. It is a helpless feeling watching someone come across the field to unload but having already turned on the auger. She was unloaded when she got to the truck. That was the last year he got to run machinery at harvest. Old age + new combine = 200 spilled bushels.

And that's why on the newer JD combines the auger automatically turns off once it is swung back about a third of the way back.

Neighbor was old man, had a 9600 and cousin had 9400. Well anyway old neighbor started down the road and flipped the auger out switch instead of the throttle switch. The utility pole took out the auger about $1k in parts.

If you dump on the move at full throttle the drive chain for the auger will wear out in about one season. We always stopped the combine to unload, we farmed a lot on 1/2 rent so needed to sample and measure most dumps. Neighbor claimed we burnt more fuel sitting still than what chain replacement cost and he most likely was correct.

Also on the early generation 9000 series leave the machine engaged while you unload (shut head off). Especially in beans the dust will fall to the bottom of the cylinder and throw the balance off. It will shake your teeth out until it balances back in. I have read where some guys throw several golf balls into the cylinder to keep the dust knocked off of the bars. We never done that but it might work. Don't be alarmed after you cut the first field of beans and then move to another and you think the whole dang cylinder is gonna shake right out of the combine, it's normal operation.

we ran a couple 9600's for a couple years, unloaded on the go almost none stop in corn, beans, and wheat and never noticed any premature wear or abnormal issues with the chain, but that was just us, ours were early model years.

That being said, we still do run golf balls in the cylinder from the 8820 to the 9670, no more 95/9600's left though. On the rare occasions we were parked and unloading, we didnt really shut the head off either though, just slowed it way down, it seemed to be easier on stuff slowing it down instead of starting and stopped, especially since they unloaded pretty fast.

We used to bump the auger on to fill it and gain a few extra minutes to let the semi's or grain cart catch us, which to me always seemed harder on equipment, but dad would always be p!ssed if the combines were "just sitting" haha
