I am going to look at a massy ferguson 540 combine on Friday. It looks to be in good working order and comes with a 13 ft grain head and 4 row 30 in corn head. They are asking $9400 for all of it. It has a grey cab . I'm from western Pennsylvania and am having trouble finding a combine , so is this too much money for this machine ? Also are they good combines, any problem spots, etc. thank you

Sure you don't have an extra 0 on that price? Around here they bring scrap price. Not a very good combine, keep looking.

Gray cab, should be a late model, this would have to a very low hour machine with excellent heads to be worth that money. They were just an ok combine, I would keep looking.

This is just my opinion. I own a low hour 550 Massey that s a little rough. I bought it years ago for a think $1975 without heads

If the corn head was a like new 1143 and the Bean head was like new and had an aluminum pickup real and the automatic head control worked and the machine was a low hour diesel with “O” problems it might be worth that much money but it’s a stretch.

A 540 was a replacement for the 410; a 4 row machine.

A 550 would be better if it was a newer “ALL GREY CAB” machine plus both heads would still be a stretch to meet the asking price.

My suggestion is to go look at the combine. You never know what you will find.

At one time I knew of a man that had a like new 410 Massey with less than 250 hours. The man that owned it had money and wouldn’t even consider selling even though he had no use for it. The man kept it clean and kept it in the shed. He would start it and let it run every so often just to keep the battery charged. I know that after he died it sold for practically nothing.
