Looks like a good crop. If you don't mind what are your settings in flax, rotor, fan. I just got a 2188 and have flax to harvest. Thanks...Darald

What are you going to do with the flax straw? It doesn't look very chopped up- can the ground be worked with that much straw laying on top of the stubble?

I started with the book settings and ended up at rotor 810, fan 520, hard thresh, chaffer at 3/8 and sieve at 3/16. Doing a pretty good job with just a few hulls in the tank.

Looks like a heck of a nice flax crop, any idea what it's running? What do you do to deal with the straw? The years I grew flax I dropped it in rows then pushed it into piles and burnt them. Made seeding the following year a lot easier.

Plan on rakeing the straw up and baling to burn. Hoping for 1500 lbs per acre, did 1700 last year, but not coming in as fast this year. Seed is going for seedstock, and bird feed, Egg farms buy a lot to feed the chickens for high Omega-3 eggs. Has to wait until afternoon to start combine as it was wrapping on the reel and auger if I start earlier in the day. Found a picture from July where you can see the flax blooming while we were harvesting ryegrass.

Nothing wrong with those yields on flax. It sure is touchy, though - wraps up the header auger if a little tough. I used to swath ahead of the combine as I didn't have a straight header. If the straw started wrapping I'd move left or right a bit to bring the swath in off-centre, seemed to decrease the wrapping problem. Not really an option when straight cutting though. Often we'd run noon to suppertime, then it'd get too tough so I'd bunch the straw rows that had been laid down during the day. I used an old pull-type swather with the reel removed and the swath opening closed off with tin or plywood.

linseed oil among many other uses, Olin used to buy the straw, we haven't had any since 84, sure is pretty when it blooms
